    308 bolt gun build

I am looking for some suggestions. I am leaning towards putting together a 308 bolt gun. Some where in the $500 to $800 range. Just a target gun. Maybe hunt with it later if it works out. So what barrel and actions do you like in this price range. Heard good and bad on Howa and Krieger. Thinking about a Boyd's stock but then again if something works or is better I would consider it.

Krieger and Obermeyer barrels are hard to beat also consider shilen. I have a Shaw that's nice in a Palma taper.

Do you have an action yet?
What kind of distance, and what bullet weight do you think you want to shoot?
I am not sure if a rifle can be built for that price range (I have never done a bolt gun) but I think it will be more to build, than to buy a decent factory rifle

Your going to spend $350-475 for a barrel and install.

So these are the Howas I was looking at from Brownells. But want to hear other opinions on lower end components that would allow a person to build a 308 bolt gun just to poke holes in paper.

So that basically is the rifle, just need a stock for it.
Stocks range from $100-$1800 depending on what you want to do with it.

Your over thinking it buy a t/c compass, Ruger American or Savage and once you burn the barrel out then put a custom tube on it. Your going to spend more for the action than one of these guns whole.
